The glossary
Every industry builds a wall of jargon, then acts surprised when newcomers feel dumb. Here's the wall, taken down brick by brick — every term you'll meet on our labels, our lab reports, or anyone else's.
- Bioavailability
- How much of a compound your body can actually absorb and use. Varies by format — one reason oral and inhaled products feel different.
- Broad-spectrum
- A hemp extract with THC mostly removed but other cannabinoids and terpenes retained. Sits between full-spectrum and isolate.
- Cannabinoid
- Any of 100+ compounds in hemp (CBD, CBG, CBN, THCv…) that interact with the body's endocannabinoid system. See the cannabinoid guides.
- Carrier oil
- The oil a cannabinoid is dissolved in for oral use. Most brands use MCT (coconut) or nut oils; Chime & Chill uses allergen-safe safflower.
- CBC · CBT · CBDv
- Rare "minor" cannabinoids. See The Minors.
- CBD (cannabidiol)
- The most abundant, most studied hemp cannabinoid; non-intoxicating. See the CBD guide.
- CBG (cannabigerol)
- The "mother cannabinoid" all others begin as; daytime character. See the CBG guide.
- CBN (cannabinol)
- The evening cannabinoid, formed as THC ages; non-intoxicating at wellness servings. See the CBN guide.
- COA (Certificate of Analysis)
- A third-party lab report for a specific product batch: cannabinoid amounts, THC screen, and more. The single most important document in hemp shopping — how to read one.
- Endocannabinoid system (ECS)
- Your body's own network of cannabinoid receptors and messenger molecules, involved in mood, sleep rhythms, appetite, and stress response.
- Entourage effect
- The studied-but-still-open idea that cannabinoids and terpenes may act differently in combination than alone.
- Full-spectrum
- A whole-plant hemp extract retaining all compounds, including up to 0.3% THC.
- Hemp
- Cannabis containing less than 0.3% THC by dry weight — the federally legal definition that separates hemp from marijuana.
- Isolate
- A single cannabinoid purified to near-total purity — no other cannabinoids, no THC. The foundation of the Chime & Chill line.
- Milligrams (mg)
- The unit cannabinoid content is measured in. With pre-dosed servings, the math is done for you.
- Non-detect (ND)
- A lab result meaning the target compound (for us: THC) did not appear at all, down to the instrument's smallest measurable amount. Stronger than "under the legal limit."
- Pre-dosed
- A product where one unit equals one exact, repeatable serving — no droppers, no measuring. Core to every Chime & Chill product.
- Psychoactive / non-psychoactive
- Whether a compound meaningfully alters your mental state. THC is psychoactive; CBD, CBG, CBN (at wellness servings), and THCv (at wellness servings) are not.
- Serving
- One pre-dosed unit. Start with one; see the dosing guide.
- Sublingual
- Held under the tongue before swallowing, where compounds can absorb through the tissue — a common way to take oral solutions.
- Terpene
- Aromatic plant oils (limonene, linalool, myrcene…) that give hemp its smell and shape its character. See the terpene wheel.
- THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)
- The intoxicating cannabinoid in marijuana. Chime & Chill products contain no detectable THC.
- THCv (tetrahydrocannabivarin)
- THC's non-intoxicating cousin with a daytime-focus character. See the THCv guide.
- Third-party lab
- An independent laboratory with no stake in the results — the only kind of testing that counts. Ours are in New York State.
- Topical
- A product applied to skin rather than ingested — e.g., our Skin Care & Aromatherapy line.
