Cannabinoid guide · morning

CBG · cannabigerol

Every cannabinoid in the hemp plant — CBD, CBN, THC, all of them — begins its life as CBG. That's why chemists call it the "mother cannabinoid." And in a nice bit of poetry, it's the one people reach for to start their day.

The mother cannabinoid

In a young hemp plant, the first cannabinoid to form is CBGa — cannabigerolic acid. As the plant matures, its enzymes convert that CBGa into the acids that become CBD, THC, CBC, and the rest. Everything downstream starts here. By harvest, most CBGa has already been "spent" becoming other cannabinoids, which is why CBG is scarce in mature plants and why it stayed obscure for so long — there simply wasn't much to study or sell.

That changed when growers bred hemp varieties that hold onto their CBG. Suddenly a once-rare compound became available in real quantities, and CBG went from footnote to one of the most talked-about cannabinoids in wellness.

What researchers are studying — and what people report

CBG interacts with both main endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) more directly than CBD does, while remaining non-intoxicating. Researchers are studying it across a range of wellness-adjacent areas, and much of that work is early — we'll say that plainly rather than dress it up.

What people report is remarkably consistent, though: a clear-headed, awake sort of calm. Where CBD's reputation is "settled," CBG's is "bright." People describe reaching for it the way they'd reach for a morning ritual — something that helps the day start on purpose instead of on defense. That's exactly why it's the co-star of our morning formula.

Why CBG belongs in the morning

Cannabinoids don't have clocks, but they do have characters, and CBG's character is daytime. Users overwhelmingly place it in the first half of the day: with coffee, before a commute, ahead of a long block of desk work. Nobody describes CBG as sleepy. Pairing it with CBD — as in our AM "Energize" CBD:CBG Oral Solution ($30) — gives you CBD's steadiness with CBG's brightness, in one pre-dosed, single-serving unit. No dropper, no measuring, no THC.

Shopping notes

Because CBG is more expensive to produce than CBD, some brands sprinkle in a token amount and shout it on the label. Do what you'd do for any cannabinoid: check the COA and confirm the CBG content is really there. Ours are available for every batch — that's the whole point of them.
